Outdoor Granite BBQ Countertops in San Diego, CA
Project Backstory
The project involved Rock-It Surfaces providing a solution for an outdoor BBQ area in San Diego, where the customer specifically required a counter surface that could withstand external weather conditions. The design challenge centered on selecting a material that was not only durable and suitable for outdoor use but also visually appealing, complementing the intended aesthetic of the outdoor cooking space.
To meet these requirements, Rock-It Surfaces recommended and installed Azul Celeste granite with a leather finish for the 56 square feet of counter area. This specific material was chosen because its composition is inherently durable and well-suited for outdoor environments. Furthermore, the Azul Celeste granite provided the desired color palette, featuring warm browns and greys accented with a hint of blue, which satisfied the customer’s aesthetic preference while ensuring longevity in the San Diego climate.

Yes. Granite is a natural stone known for its strength and durability, which makes it well suited for outdoor applications. Certain granite colors and finishes perform especially well outside when properly fabricated and installed, even in climates exposed to sun, heat, and changing weather conditions.
Granite is one of the hardest natural stone countertop materials and resists scratches from everyday use. While it is very durable, strong impacts or heavy objects hitting edges or corners can cause chips. Professional fabrication and installation help minimize this risk.
Granite is relatively low maintenance compared to many natural stones. Routine cleaning with mild soap and water is typically all that’s needed to keep it looking its best. A fabricator can provide guidance on care recommendations specific to the granite selected and how it’s used.
